okay, for logo monday today i want to share an AMAZING branding project for the city of melbourne, australia.
here’s what famous logos has to say about the brand:
‘Looking to re-brand itself and stand tall amongst the big guys (i.e. Paris, London, Sydney et. al), the city of Melbourne decided it needed a new logo to replace the old one. The new logo, designed by strategic brand consulting and design firm Landor, cost the city just under $200,000.’
in case you were wondering, $200,000 is an insane amount of money for a logo. below is an image of the original logo, the new logo, and the interactive logos to accompany the main logo:
oh lawd! so fresh, edgy and architectural! three things i adore! i have no idea what melbourne is like but i somehow find myself wanting to check it out (i did read an incredible article about melbourne revamping some architecture in order to compete with sydney as a destination city). maybe my next big trip?
although the logo has had some mixed reviews, with several groups claiming the logo rips off various other logos, i think it’s smashing. it even landed in under consideration’s top ten best identities of 2009.
